York Éireannach vs Brothers Pearse, Huddersfield

2020... a year that will go down in history. Covid-19 had ultimately caused the world to stop in every way possible. As almost 6 months had passed without any training or games, many of the players were keen to return albeit, a lack of peak fitness.
After only 3 brief training sessions, we were scheduled to face Brothers Pearse of Huddersfield. Our competitors always guarantee a tough physical game with plenty of scores. We welcomed many new faces to our club at the start of the year, so it was exciting to finally provide these players with some time on the pitch. 
As the sound of the referee's whistle sounded across Beeston, the adrenaline returned to the surface of every player's skin. The match got underway and with the advantage of the wind, Huddersfield quickly asserted their dominance. The well established Huddersfield team put some crucial early scores on the board, while York were still testing the water after a long absence from playing sport. There was occasions where there was a glimmer of hope, a quick backline with lots of pace, a strong midfield that caused havoc during kick-outs and a fast-moving frontline that kept finding holes in the Huddersfield backline. 
After the half-time, York came back to win the second-half but, it wasn't enough! As the score did not reflect how York played, there was a lot of positives to take away from the match. There was a sense of more running from the back line, a dominant midfield and a speedy front line that spent the whole afternoon wizzing past the Huddersfield defence. Presumably, York will hope that they can learn from that match and mould the highlighted quality shown that afternoon and reflect it on the scoreboard. This year may be one to forget in all respects although, everyone at York Éireannach is glad to return to playing sport and most of all enjoying time with their friends and team mates.
